The man behind police tape wearing a white forensic outfit showed that the house where Terry Blanchette lived with his two-year old daugher was still an active crime scene Tuesday morning as the search for little Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette continued.

Blanchette, 27, was found dead in his home shortly before noon on Monday. Investigators believe little Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, has been missing since 3:30 a.m.

Police have arrested a male suspect in Blairmore in connection with the abduction and homicide.

Hailey has still not been found, police said at a news conference today, and no charges have been laid against the suspect. Police are not releasing the man's name.

Police issued an Amber Alert for Hailey for Alberta but quickly expanded it to include B.C., Saskatchewan and Montana on Monday afternoon. Police announced the alert would be renewed Tuesday.

Hailey’s mother Cheyenne Dunbar was posting frantic comments on a Pass Herald Facebook post Monday at noon before rushing from her home in Edmonton to be with relatives in the Crowsnest Pass.

“My baby lives there!!!” wrote Dunbar in response to a photo of the home on 21st Avenue in Blairmore.

“Jesus!!! Phone Terry! Or can you not get a hold of him???? Call the cops!!!!” replied her friend Tiffany Anne

“I can’t get a hold of him and I’m waiting for RCMP to call me back,” replied Dunbar.

“Call again Cheyenne! Don’t stop! They have to tell you something. That is your daughter!” replied Anne.

“My daughter is missing,” wrote Dunbar.

Tony Hamori, RCMP assistant district commander for southern Alberta, said Blanchette’s death and the disappearance of the little girl are both very troubling.

“We could be dealing with a single suspect or more than that,” said Hamori in an evening news conference.

Hailey is a Caucasian female child of small build with light brown straight hair, bangs and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crowsnest Pass RCMP immediately at 403-562-2866 or a local police station.

The RCMP has called in Southern Serious Crimes Branch investigators. An air and ground search was under way in the region. Officers are conducting site security at several locations around the community and questioning residents.

“They were asking me about what I’ve seen and if I noticed anything,” said Blairmore resident Oona Loseth. “I came home at around 1:30 a.m. [Monday morning] and I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, the town was dead.”

Family friend Corrette Harrington said Blanchette and Dunbar, who was his former girlfriend, shared custody of their little girl. She described Blanchette as a devoted single father.

"He was such a good dad, he did everything for her, not many single fathers could do what he did," said Harrington, “When you saw Hailey with her dad, she would grin from ear to ear."

Harrington said she sometimes looked after Hailey while Blanchette worked as a cook at Pure Country Bar and Grill in Frank.

"Hailey was easy to love, like another one of my daughters," she said.
