As reported by the CBC, Derek Saretzky, who is implicated in one of the most horrific crimes in the Pass’ history, will be back in court in June for a preliminary inquiry.

The inquiry will last for ten days between June 20-30. It will determine if there's enough evidence to take the matter to trial.

Saretzky appeared via CCTV in a Lethbridge courtroom on Feb. 26 after being found fit to stand trial last November following a psychiatric examination.

The 23-year old Crowsnest resident is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of two-year-old Hailey Dunbar- Blanchette and her father Terry Blanchette.

He is also charged with committing indignity to a body in connection to Hailey.

Saretzky was arrested in the Crowsnest Pass after Terry, 27, was found dead in his Blairmore home on Sept. 14, and a widespread Amber Alert was issued for two-year-old Hailey, who had been abducted earlier that morning.

Her remains were discovered in a rural area the next day.

At one time after his arrest, Saretzky was by himself in the shower at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre when he attempted suicide. He was found in medical distress by guards, and transported to Chinook Regional Hospital for treatment.

As a result, he was ordered to undergo 30-day review of his mental health. It was later extended by an additional 28 days.

Media reports suggest Saretzky next went on a hunger strike in the days leading up to a previous court appearance and was sent to Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Nov. 25, as a precaution.
