On Mother’s Day, you’ll have chance to see how local artists work.

The Crowsnest Pass Allied Arts Association is presenting its first ever self-guided tour of over 30 artists’ home studios on May 7 and 8 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Stops include familiar venues like the Artist Collective Studio and the Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery but also some private residences like artist Yvonne Martinez’s house in Coleman. Also included in the tour are local businesses, which support local artists by displaying their art throughout the year like the Crowsnest Cafe and Flyshop.

The free event allows the public to enter normally private workspaces of the artists who live and work in the Crowsnest Pass.

The tour will appeal to those who enjoy art and appreciate our diverse local talent,” said tour organizer Lynnette Jessop. “Families and visitors of all ages are welcome, and some studios will feature demonstrations and work for sale.”

Tour participants might also be treated to coffee, or wine and cheese at various studios. Some stops might offer Mother’s Day tea. Participants are invited to set their own pace and choose the studios they’d like to visit over the two days.

The art represented on the tour includes watercolour, acrylic and oil painting, sculpture, stained glass, collage, visual art, poetry, jewelry, photography, ceramics, encaustic wax, sketching and more.

Vibrant signage will identify the artist’s studio.

The Crowsnest Pass Allied Arts Association is planning a second tour for July 30 and 31 during the Doors Open and Heritage Festival. For more information contact Lynette Jessop at (403) 563 – 8829 or visit www.cnpstudiotour.ca.
