Years ago, Dr. Sarah-Dash Arbuckle was looking into the possibility of maybe opening her own health centre.

Fast-forward through 12 years of hard work, and the naturopathic doctor has turned a mere possibility into reality but she didn’t think it would take this long to find a decent locale.

That time may have finally come with her brand new location along Highway 3 in Coleman, which Arbuckle says is larger, busier and closer to the action than any of her previous ones.

The wandering Health Hub began its life in Chakras SPA, where it operated one day a week in 2004. It then migrated to the MDM Centre in Bellevue, then into Arbuckle’s mother’s basement, then to a location in Blairmore and finally to her new location in Coleman.

“So yes, lots of moves but honestly, there are enough places in Crowsnest Pass that need renovating so why not?” says Arbuckle. “I tend to be good at that.”

Her latest was a strategic move closer to the highway.

“I heard it quoted that on a long weekend, 40,000 vehicles drive through the Crowsnest Pass and only 3,000 are stopping,” she says. “I really want to change the number of vehicles stopping in the Crowsnest Pass.”

At about 3500 square feet, her new place is almost twice as big as her previous one. The business is open Monday to Saturday and operates for longer hours than before.

Practitioners include massage therapists Sarah Nurcombe and Kyle Green, chiropractor Dr. Lindsey Patterson, traditional Chinese doctor Dr. Rita Wendrich and reiki master and teacher Cheryl Cann. A total of six practitioners work at The Health Hub and Arbuckle says another eight are interested in joining.

The new space has a conference room, lab, kitchen and extra storage. The store is located next door to Coleman Remedy’s RX and Arbuckle says she has a good relationship with its head pharmacist Stephen Little.

“He and I see eye to eye on a lot of topics,” she says. “We can expand both our product lines with one another, sharing the liability of consultations.”

Arbuckle has received a lot of jokes about the “dizzying,” number of times she’s moved her business but that she’s very happy with the new spot.

“Been here 12 years now and it’s finally doing better,” she says. “But it took 12 years, it was a long go.”
