Incoming, outgoing and parcel services. Kim Miskulin, the new postmaster at the Blairmore Post Office, does it all.

“It’s a big responsibility,” she said. “I’m excited to take on the challenge and I’m grateful to be given this opportunity in my hometown.”

Miskulin said she’s had an interest in Canada Post since childhood. Her grandmother worked for the post office and she herself, “was an avid stamp collector.”

“I have a really good team too,” she said of her three coworkers.

The Crowsnest Pass native is a former employee at the Bellevue Post Office and has a degree in Community Service and Business Administration from Lethbridge Community College.

It is an interesting time at Canada Post as emerging technologies are changing its role in communities. While fewer people are sending letters, parcel deliveries are on the upswing.

In 2015, Canada Post’s strong delivery performance helped increase its parcels revenue by $137 million over the previous year. Volumes rose by 16 million pieces or 9.7 per cent compared to 2014 for the Canada Post segment.

Canada Post reported a $44 million profit before tax in the first quarter of 2016, up from $24 million in the same period in 2015.

Parcel revenue rose to $421 million, up $41 million from the year before, but mail volumes and revenue fell along with direct mail.

Canada Post is under government review right now. Every Friday a new question regarding the postal service is posted online.

“I encourage people to speak out and fill out the weekly questionnaire,” said Miskulin.
