East Kootenay Traffic Services RCMP confirms that after a lengthy criminal investigation charges have been laid in a fatal motor vehicle collision.

On April 21, 2015, two motor vehicles were in involved in a collision on Highway 43 just north of Sparwood. The collision resulted in the death of 21-year-old Sparwood resident, Cory Landry.

Kody William Tanner of Sparwood has been charged under the criminal code with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while street racing, impaired driving and care and control of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit causing an accident resulting in death.

Tanner is scheduled to appear in court on August 25 in Fernie.

Meanwhile, Shayla Gail Zabok of Drayton Valley, Alta. has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with driving without reasonable consideration and excessive speed.

Zabok made her first court appearance on June 2 in Sparwood and is schedule to re-appear July 28, in Sparwood.
