Two injured in crash near Sparwood

At approximately 1:50 p.m. on July 19, Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of a serious collision on Highway 43, in the area of Upper Elk Valley Road and Line Creek Mine Road near Sparwood.

A Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by a male in his late 50s was travelling northbound on Hwy 43 in Sparwood when he reportedly collided with a semi tractor cube van that was travelling southbound.

The driver of the pick-up was trapped in the vehicle for approximately one hour before being extracted. He was later airlifted by STARS air ambulance to hospital in Calgary and was reported to have sustained a broken arm.

However, he is in stable condition. The driver of the semi tractor cube van was a male in his mid 20s who was transported to the hospital in Sparwood for examination and released.

Hwy 43 was shut down in both directions for a couple of hours to ensure the safety of the emergency crew during the rescue operation and to facilitate the landing of the STARS air ambulance.
