With the streets of Hillcrest lined with vintage chrome, rubber and leather, Kawna Cameron and her 1971 Volkswagen Beetle proved that the ‘love bug’ still has an undeniable charm.

Cameron took home the People’s Choice Award at the 12th annual Crowsnest Pass Show and Shine on July 30.

About 125 vehicles participated in the prohibition themed event, which was part of the Doors Open and Heritage Festival.

The Crowsnest Pass Wheel Nuts Society put on the event and participants voted for their favourite cars, trucks and bikes.

“We’re excited about all the people who come out for it,” said Brian McFarlane, past-president of the Wheel Nuts. “We get a lot of support and we really appreciate the volunteers who help us carry the show off.”

Winners:

Longest Distance: Allen Winters and his 2005 Dodge Rumble Bee.

Best Bike: Torrie Ciampenelli’s 2006 American Iron Horse 1700.

Best Prohibition Era Vehicle: Jim Ciser’s 1929 Durant Sedan.

Best Paint Job: Dave Wasylyshen’s 1956 Mercury Old School Custom.

Best Truck: Bryan Smith’s 1955 GMC ½ Ton Pickup Step Side.

Survivor Award: Chris Gibbie’s 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne.

Best Mopar: Brent Linderman’s 1966 Dodge Hemi 426.

Best Engine: Bob Irwin’s Chevrolet Bel Air Hard Top.

Best Ford/Mercury: Barry Fritz’s Custom Club Coupe.

Best GMC: Bryan and Diane Bates’ 1969 Chevrolet Camaro 454.

Best Hotrod: Matthew Puzey’s Ford V8 Three-Window Coupe.

Best Interior: Graham and Robin Atkinson’s 1955 Chevrolet 210.

Work in progress award: Sean Harper’s 1954 Plymouth Savoy.
