Fire chief resigns, Cpt. Trent Fraser named interim chief

Trent Fraser, acting manager of Protective Services / Fire Chief, has taken over for Steve Debienne.

Steve Debienne, the community’s manager of Protective Services/ Fire Chief, resigned his position effective August 9.
Debienne did not respond to a request for comment and CAO Sheldon Steinke called the resignation a “confidential personnel matter that I cannot discuss.”
The acting manager of Protective Services/ Fire Chief will be Trent Fraser who was one of the fire captains for Emergency Services.
Fraser will be supported by Deputy Chief Mark Calvert, the remaining fire captains, lieutenants, Emergency Services Crews, the Fire Smart Team and full-time staff.

Steinke said to expect to see advertising to refill the fire chief position shortly and that Fraser is the best fit for the interem.
Mayor Blair Painter said there would be no other changes in the department and does not anticipate that Debienne’s resignation will have an effect on the quality of service.
A native of Carrot River, Sask, Debienne is a veteran firefighter with over 20 years experience. He relocated to the Pass from Taber where he served as deputy chief under the Pass’ former Fire Chief Steve Munshaw in September.
