A Bashaw metal fabricator is donating a bench bearing likeness of Terry Blanchette and his two-year-old daughter Hailey.

On September 9, 2015 the body of 69-year-old Hanne Meketech was found in her Coleman home.
A few days later 27-year-old Terry Blanchette was found dead in his Blairmore home and an Amber Alert that spanned B.C., Saskatchewan and the U.S. state of Montana was issued for his missing two-year-old daughter Hailey.
A few days later the RCMP announced that her remains had been found in a rural area outside of Blairmore.
Blairmore’s Derek Saretzky has been charged with all three of the slayings.
The accused killer will face a seven-week trial before a judge and jury in May 2017.

While the tragedy that unfolded over a year ago continues to haunt this community, citizens from across the province continue to pay their respects to its victims.
When Dexter Hucal watched motorcyclists from across Southern Alberta rumble into Crowsnest Pass last year to show support for the families of the murdered Crowsnest Pass residents on his television, he knew he had to act.
The 22-year old resident of Bashaw, Alberta, operates High Caliber Industries, a metal fabrication company that does custom work on automobiles but also produces memorial benches.
He contacted Tammy Tracey, Blanchette’s friend and coworker at Pure Country Bar and Grill, and asked if he could donate a bench to commemorate the slain father and daughter.
She agreed and Hucal got to work. The bench will feature a likeness of Hailey and her father. Once it’s complete, it’ll be placed in Lions Park in Blairmore where Blanchette would often bring his daughter to play.

“It’s something everyone will be able to see and just remember them,” said Hucal. “Something great for the community instead of money. It’ll be something I’ve made so it’ll mean a lot more to me personally than if I’d just written a cheque.”
The bench will be one of several improvements added to Lions Park using funds donated by people touched by the tragedy.
Don Harvey, Blairmore Lions president and park chairman, said those funds add up to over $20,000. He said funds will be used to buy new playground equipment for the park and that the club is applying for a matching government grant.
